Alloy C22 is composed of nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten and it is a versatile austenitic alloy. It has intensified ability to resist pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. The presence of high chromium component allows it to resists oxidizing agents, while the molybdenum and tungsten enhance its efficiency to resist reducing agents. In addition to these characteristics, Hastelloy C22 also possesses great resistance to oxidizing aqueous media i.e. wet chlorine and mixtures containing nitric acid or oxidizing acids carrying chlorine ions.
This nickel alloy must not be used under service temperature higher than 1250° F as it causes the formation of detrimental phases which are likely to happen above this temperature.
Properties of Hastelloy C-22
• Holds good resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking
• Equal resistance to both oxidizing and reducing media
• Greatly resistant to oxidizing aqueous media
• Excellent resistance to a number of chemical procedure environments which include concentrated oxidizers like ferric acids, acetic anhydride, seawater and brine solutions
• Alloy C22 also prevents grain-boundary precipitates from forming during the process of welding
• Outstanding weldability
