Alloy 20 is an austenitic alloy that is formed by combining nickel-iron-chromium it has a higher level of resistance to acid attack, especially sulfuric acid. Alloy 20 is also called Carpenter 20 and this superalloy has enhanced resistance to general corrosion, pitting and crevice corrosion in chemicals that carry chlorides as well as sulfuric, phosphoric and nitric acids. This nickel alloy is the best combination of outstanding corrosion resistance, increased mechanical properties and comparatively feasible fabrication. Though, the major use of carpenter 20 in sulfuric acid related factories.
Properties of Alloy 20
• Exceptional common corrosion resistance to sulfuric acid
• Resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking
• Increased mechanical properties and fabricability
• Controlled carbide precipitation in the process of welding
• Great resistance to hot sulfuric acids
Applications of Alloy 20
• Used in rubber manufacturing apparatus
• Equipment used in pickling and to clean acids
• Food and dye manufacturing
• Chemical process piping and reactor vessels
• Manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, plastics and organic chemicals
• Bubble caps
