Hastelloy C-22 is a versatile nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with better overall corrosion resistance than other Ni-Cr-Mo alloys available today, including Hastelloy C-276, C-4, and A625. Alloy C-22 has great resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking. It also possesses excellent resistance to oxidizing aqueous media, including acids with oxidizing agents, wet chlorine and mixtures containing nitric acid or oxidizing acids with chlorine ions. Hastelloy C-22 has outstanding resistance to both reducing and oxidizing media, and because of its versatility can be used where “upset” conditions are likely to occur or in multipurpose plants.

C-22 has demonstrated an exceptional resistance to a wide array of chemicals. It has consistently demonstrated, in great effects when exposed to strong oxidizers, such as ferric and cupric chlorides, chlorine, organic and inorganic hot contaminated solutions, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, seawater, and brine solutions.

Along with possessing great corrosion resistance, C-22 can also be easily fabricated, and it displays superior welding conditions while also resisting the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat- affected zone. It can be welded using gas tungsten arc (GTAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), or shielded metal arc (SMAW) welding techniques. It resists the formation of any grain boundary precipitates in the weld’s heat-affected zone, giving superb as-welded conditions.
